Steve,

That is the single most helpful overview of the process I have read so  
far.

Thanks for the input. I basically figured most of that out this morning  
at about 2:30AM.

I don't know what printer/ink/paper combo you are using but after all  
of that I seem to be finding that the UT inkset  is incapable of  
anything over 1.34 density.

This is contrary to what I have read on-line but I tried a number of  
curves and calibration files and cannot seem to get beyond that.

Just so I am not missing something obvious, or inheriting ink limits  
built into someone else's ink descriptors, do you have an ink  
descriptor file that when printed should yield the maximum density on a  
2200 printer?
