although I cannot help you much with your specific 1160/UT-FSN 
problems, I can point you to a very helpful website with all sorts of 
tips and tricks for diagnosing and 'therapying' Epson printing 
problems:

It helped me to get rid of rather persistent microbanding in BO 
printing on my 1290.
