I tried for the longest time to get decent B&W out of Canon inks with an S9000, with no luck. I finally got prints that looked OK out of the printer, but 6 months later some of them had started to turn purple in various places. They had been stored stacked (pressed) together in bound books, so I can't blame the atmosphere. I finally gave up and dedicated the printer to Lyson Quads, and got a second printer (S900) for color work. I think the 9900 uses the same inks as the 9000, so I would expect the same results.
