John, as you've already heard, one approach is to double the cyan-position and magenta-position inks. The benefit of that in your 7000 is that it can make for smoother transitions because it will minimize device dots with proper profiling. By today's standards, 7000 dots can get pretty unsightly. Too bad that there are no intermediate dilutions of PTs in 220 ml carts.... The other approach is to get 2 tones of another PT color and blend them - but then you would be best served if you are on OS X and use either QTR or IJC/OPM. Whatever you do, beware of printing without using all 6 nozzles. Eventually you will get badly dried heads. I have to say, however, that the Piezotones are extremely well-behaved that way. They are capable of re-diluting dried ink at the heads even after months of no use. It's just a big hassle and a waste of time to revive dried heads. One advantage to loading the PTs "by the book" is that you can share profiles with other users if you use IJC/OPM or QTR. My 9500 is now loaded that way, for example, and I'm sure my IJC profiles can be used on a 7000 with just one linearization pass. My current load order is (left to right): Museum Black Darkest gray Darkest gray Medium gray Medium gray Light gray The alternative you may have in mind could be... Museum Black Darkest gray (SEL) Medium gray (SEL) Medium gray (SEP) Light gray (SEL) Light gray (SEP) As you can see, you can't fit a Darkest gray (SEP). This means you have to decide if you can use the Medium gray (SEP) as toner for the lower tones without overloading the paper, or substitute the Medium gray (SEP) for a Darkest gray (SEP) and hope you won't see dots in the mid tones. In all, you may end up with a bit of crossover, but it may be subtle or just desirable for what you are printing. For "real" toning, the UT inksets seem to offer a bigger range of moves with Cyan and Sepia toners - but to my knowledge they don't make these versions available in 220ml carts. You'd have to load your own - which may be an exercise worth going through if only for the learning experience.
