Digital BW, The Print

Am I correct that with a Quadtone RIP and a 2200 I should be able to 
_potentially_ produce prints that are the equivlent of those from a 
1280 with U2 inks?  Not identical, but of a similar quality.  I do 
not get to print frequently and a single printer for B&W and color 
that uses Epson inks makes a lot of sense.  What has stopped me to 
this point is the cost of Imageprint.
