I was about to suggest getting _more_ than 1GB of RAM, especially if you're 
working with MF scans at all.  I'm scanning at only 24bit with Epson 3200's 
at work (which is why I scan at 24 bit, since 48bit, 3200 dpi scans are too 
big for me to be dealing with at this point), and when I eventually get 
these home and edit these on my home machine, the various edits take a long 
time.  Even cropping can take several minutes.  I am using 1GB of DDR 2700 
RAM, on an Athlon 2700+.  Scratch disk is a separate physical disk.
