OK. Bob has made some good suggestions re setting up your scratch disks. As a rule, if you can, place all your media files on the same disk that you have nominated as your primary scratch disk and ensure that this is a fast diak drive that does not hold your OS. I have not read all these posts but I think you have said you have a dual Mac (so at least 2x1.8). What do you have for hard drives? Single or dual? As I said, I have not yet set up a scratch disk other than my one HD which also holds my OS and I am still not getting the performance problems you are having. Take a look at the RAM you have allocated to PS. As I only have 1GB in this new machine at the moment I have it set to 90% which gives PS 789 MB. However it has been debated here and elsewhere before that RAM allocation should be left to the OS and not individual apps. My understanding is that OSX controls RAM allocation between apps and so I am not sure which rules the roost (and that this is a difference from Windows - I am not sure). At any rate, I set the % high in PS settings just to be safe. If you have 2GB of RAM then a high allocation will minimise the importance of your scratch disk setup. It would be a shame to toss a very capable machine simply because it needs a clean and tune, rather than being broken.
