Well, that wasn't it. I went through the directions for setting the lpt port up with the Loopback Adaptor again and used lpt2 instead of lpt3, which I had used before, then I deleted lpt3. I have another printer on lpt1. It makes absolutely no difference to the now very long startup times I'm experiencing with Win2K.
