Considering a batch of prints from a BO print exchange a few months back, the output between the 1290 and 2100 are very similar if both are using Eboni black. That being said, I prefer the dither from the 1280/90 printers over the 21/2200 but that is just personal preference. If you like your 1160 BO dither and final prints, I can't see any reason to upgrade until your printer fails as it still will produce excellent color results.
