If I remember correctly NeatImage cannot work on a TIFF file saved with LZW. And I also think QTR requires a non-compressed TIFF file as well, no? If you're saving for reloading into Photoshop later, as when you're part way through a major edit, then use .psd. If you're saving something that's finished, especially if you intend to send it to someone else who will open it in something other than Photoshop, TIFF is a reasonable interchange format, because it offers some compression options.
