Digital BW, The Print

I'm hoping someone can help with a few questions regarding QTR. Some
may appear very 
basic but before posting I have spend 3 days searching the board for
answers all to no 
avail.
 I am using a Mac running Panther.

1. Is QTR purely a black and white RIP?

2 If the above is true do I have to have grey and black inks
installed or can I use it with the 
default color inks in my Epson 1200?

3. I have installed the driver without any problems, but must I use a
profile to take 
advantage of the RIP? I ask this because  I suspect it is using
'black only' when I print 
without the profile.

4. Are there any profiles available for the Epson 1200 or would I be
better served using a 
different printer model?

5. I tried to create a profile using a the 1280-vm-gray.txt sample 
as a base but the when I 
used it I got very strange multi-colored results. Any ideas what I
may be doing wrong?
