That is a good question, I started looking for a printer once I purchased a
digital camera and started thinking about color printing. ALMOST as soon I
was all fired up to print black and white since that is what I have done in
the darkroom, and is my first choice. The 1280 has recently been reduced in
price, which did catch my eye. I am unfamiliar with RIP. thanks

The one thing holding me back is wondering if it is due to be
replaced. Something introduced over two yrs ago is getting on the
"old" side. Any comments here please. Dan
You neglected to tell us how you intend to use it.
The 2200 is incapable of making decent black and white prints on its
own, unless you plan to do black-only printing. If you intend to
use the full inkset of the 2200 you'll need to buy a RIP.
If you intend to use a 3rd-party inkset then you can buy a much
cheaper 1270 or 1280.
