Digital BW, The Print

I'm trying to use QTR and QTRGui to get good B&W (good being
relative to myself of course). QTRGui forces me to use two
curves (won't let me not use a curve) and I can't seem to
get a good result - either too cool or too warm. I've
tried a number of combinations including the obvious 50%
cool and 50% warm but still not happy. Can anyone assist?
