Believe it or not, the Pictorico Hi Gloss White Film actually works
better for silver-gelatin printing.  I just took a class in digital
negative printing at a local community college and was amazed at the
results.

You most definitely need a curve.  You can find one on Dan
Burkholder's site along with his book:
