The ink load sliders on the 7600 and 4000 appear to have only a marginal impact on the dmax readings of the matte papers. I think there may be a relationship between dot size the ability to achieve a good dmax. Unfortunately, the smaller dots may be at a disadvantage. Maybe there are other factors, but I think this model is the most consistent with the results I've seen from the 3000 on. (That old workhorse has an excellent dmax.
