I'd describe it as a 2 dimensional mapping, not what a color managed icc conversion does, which is a 3 dimensional color mapping, and done so by the icc standards. For example our SP density files can't be utilized by icc aware apps. In terms of repeatable consistancy, via accurate hardware measurements, for grayscale output, in a sense it amounts to the same thing. How's that for confusing? Tyler
