Yup, it's an amazing, quiet, FAST little printer. I'm betting that the
replacements for the X600 series in 2006 will have this technology rather
than the
4000's.

This printer has no bronzing on glossy and an increased color gamut on both

matte and glossy papers................and it prints on CD/DVD's made for
the
purpose.

Subject: unfixable blockage in 1520 - first since 1997

Hello again all,

I wrote in the other day asking for thoughts on the usage of an Epson
1520 printer for B&W. Although I received no reply to my query, I
thought I should report in that my question is probably now mute. For
the first time since I bought it new in 1997 I have a blockage in the
black that I can not clear no matter what. I have tried special head
cleaning cartridges, my old faithful trick of tape head cleaning
solution ... and also tried rubbing alcohol and then later some windex.
Of course, I tried cleaning via the utility on the computer too.
Nothing I do will make all of the lines appear on the black test. Only
some appear. The CMY cartridge is fine. Does this mean my 1520 has
finally died? Is the only recourse to take it out and give it a burial?

Thanks for any advice,
-Lynn

Just got a batch of Somerst Velver uncoated paper and wondered if
anyone could share the settings they use for printing.

I am going to guess that I print on the smoother side of the paper and
perhaps use a plain paper setting on my 2200 printer, but other than
that I could sure use some advice.

Go to http://www.digitalartsupplies.com and ask them. I belive they may
have profiles
for uncoated Somerset for the Ultra-Chrome inks.

I'm using a 9600, but it should be the same.

First, follow the instructions in the Ethernet printserver manual
(the online manual, not the paper getting-started manual) to assign
your printer a fixed IP address. This step can be skipped, but then
your printer may stop working if your network configuration changes.
You'll need to know enough about your network to pick an IP address
that won't cause conflicts.

Download QuadToneRIP2.1d.dmg from www.harrington.com and mount the
disk image, then double-click on QuadToneRIP2.1d.pkg and let it
install, then go into Profiles/7600-UC and double click on the
Install7600ipp script to actually install the printer. Notice, there
are two 7600 scripts, and you must use the one ending in "ipp"
(stands for Internet Printing Protocol). The script asks for the IP
address of the printer.

That's it. It just worked for me. If you're having difficulty with
that procedure, you'll need to be more specific about what problems
you're having.

Does anyone know of a coating to apply to Hahnemuhle Photo Rag dual sided
308 paper
that will actually seal the blacks from transfering on to facing pages. I
have done a number
of books for graduating photo and design students with this wonderful paper
and have
always sprayed it with Premier Art and Lyson Printguard in two heavy coats.
However, we
are still seeing black ink transfer to facing pages within a short period of
time.

Now I have a client who wants to produce very high-end wedding portrait
books, leather
bound with a fine rag paper but we are facing this same issue of ink
transfer. We don't
have to use rag paper but I would prefer to.

So, is there a coating, laquer, or something that I could use to stop this
from happening? It
seems to me that I remember Paul Roark talking about some sealant he was
using. Any
other ideas?

This paper ideally would be a relatively heavy fine rag media. I know
Somerset and
Concorde Rag have the coating more down in the paper, but they aren't dual
sided and
would probably transfer blacks anyway with the sprays that I've been using.

Any suggestions would be helpful,

John

No don't use the plain paper setting! That is low res. Use the watercolor
paper setting or
Velvet Fine Art or Photoquality Injket settings......... You could try both
sides.

John,

For matte papers I like Lascaux Fixativ. It decreases the dmax considerably
less than the ones you mentioned. However, I don't know if it will do any
better job with respect to rub-off.

I'm speculating, but I'd guess that some other paper would have less of a
problem. That PhotoRag surface seems to be a sensitive one. PremierArt 205
is dual sided.

By the way, although I'm not familiar with the PhotoRag dual sided paper,
with most I've used the concave side is not as smooth as the convex side.
