Probably unintentional, a straight Panther install will put the gimp
drivers there without asking. I believe a custom install is necessary
to avoid that.

Not that I can think of. The reason the uninstall was recommended was
because there were some reports of the gimp driver being used in spite
of the selection of the Epson. Makes no sense of course, but computers
do strange things sometimes. Could have been user error.
