Here's the basic plan as I see it now. Stephen has done a great job putting on a friendly front end. So adding all the basic printing capability that the mac has is in the works. It's not quite as simple as using the print dialogs on the mac but its close. Its mostly a matter of me getting more time to move code to the PC and test it out. A couple details: 1) The directionality will be selectable. I think unidirectional is the default now not bi-directional. 2) 1440x1440 is a bit of an unknown. Epson does not show this resolution in any of their recommended modes for the printers already supported. The Pro printers (4xxx,7xxx,9xxx) are pretty explicit in not handling 1440x1440. With the 2200 it might be possible since so much is handled in the driver. However I'm unsure if there would be any benefit -- 1440x720 already uses the smallest drop size. Also there's the issue of doubling the print time. The other main unknown here is that I don't know if gimp-print will work at 1440x1440. There's code for various resolutions so it might be added but I can't be sure. 3) There's been a fair amount of interest in the R800. From the Epson documentation it looks like you can only take advantage of the smallest 1.5 pl drop size if you go to 2880x1440 or 1440x1440 (this is the first printer I've seen that explicitly mentions 1440x1440). So this ties into the above issue too. 4) Roll paper will also supported in the next version. Roy
