You can certainly do that. Windows doesn't provide an interface for
calibrating two monitors--that is, the "display", regardless of how many
monitors it has, only has one profile to describe it. This means you need to
calibrate and profile the CRT, which you'll use for viewing images, and then
settle for however that looks on the LCD. Since you won't be profiling the
LCD, and will be using it primarily for non-photos, you can use any old
piece of trash. However, even without calibration, having lots of pixels
(i.e., 1600x1200) is still nice.
