This recently happened to my client's 7000. Are you using thick paper? It
could be that the head is too close to the paper. You can adjust the platen
width to "wide" - this adjusts the head height - use the control panel on
the printer. Look in the manual for the buttons to push. There was no need
to clean the head after that.
