cleaning the 7000

cleaning the 7000

2001-11-11 by sdmey4@aol.com

I'am getting excess ink draged across the prints in my MIS loaded 7000. Does
anyone know how to unlock the print head so I can wipe up under there? I
would use the procedure for the 3000 but I thought I'd ask first since I
don't want to damage the 7000 doing something stupid. This happened right
after a refill. I thought maybe I loaded too much ink, but I have siphoned
some off and its still there and pretty heavy.

This recently happened to my client's 7000. Are you using thick paper? It
could be that the head is too close to the paper. You can adjust the platen
width to "wide" - this adjusts the head height - use the control panel on
the printer. Look in the manual for the buttons to push. There was no need
to clean the head after that.

Hi Steve:
same thing recently happened on my 7000. I had just recently loaded
ink in some virgin cartridges (color)...but it only was the
black...so I'm thinking it was some air in that cartridge burping
out. That's a guess...but I think it will clear up.

best,
ken

Oh....the reason I also thought it was air...I was getting skips in
the black area when doing a nozzle check...

I ran a cleaning cycle, and I haven't had the problem anymore.

Beating the chips on a 1280

2001-11-12 by Todd Flashner

I see many of you on this list are using 1280s. I actually have a 1270 but I
believe the CIS units are the same for the two.

I'm looking to use third party inks in my 1270. Are all of you using the
nomorecarts CIS with their "always full" chip system, or are any of you
having good results with other alternatives I should consider?

Should I decide I want to use carts what's the best way to beat the chips?

Todd,

The NoMoreCarts CIS works fine. It does do a nozzle cleaning every
time you turn on the printer and asks if you really want to use these
non-Epson carts. Minor annoyance. There is still the weakness of the
drooping support arm that needs to me checked occasionally.

The MIS system that uses real Epson carts and a software workaround
sounds better in theory but I have not heard any feedback yet.

Thanks Martin and Jerry. At least I know the nomorecarts will do it if I
choose to go that route.

I know there are a lot of 1280 users out there, are any of you using
something other than nomorecarts to bust the chips? I'd like to save a rupee
or two if an alternative system is good. Anybody using carts with third
party inks?

I've been using the MIS CIS (they call it "CFS" for "continuous feed") on
my 1280 for a couple of weeks now. You can buy software on from MIS that
allows you to re-set the Epson carts to full. So, far, it seems to be
working. There are a couple of issues with this set up. First, the
software only works if your printer is connected via a parallel
port. Since I normally connect via USB, this requires me to change the
connection whenever I want to re-set the chip. Second, it appears that you
need to re-set before the chip reads "empty"--if a chip reaches an "empty"
reading, it cannot be re-set. This happened to me with the black cart on my
system. I was able to solve the problem by prying the chip off the OEM
cartridge that came with the printer and putting it on the MIS CFS black
cart (the chips snap off an on pretty easily if you're careful), and now it
seems to be working.

Mechanically, I've had no problems with the MIS system once I got the
cartridges loaded with ink. You need to figure out how to do this on your
own, however, because MIS's instructions assume filled cartridges, which
they do not provide with the MIS VM quadtone inks.
