Digital BW, The Print

I just yesterday got my 1280 with UT2 running. I tried both of 
Roark's methods, sliders and curves, but was unable to get a decent 
cool toned image. I printed a bit of the ink purging pattern and see 
that, with automatic printer settings, all tones are easily 
discernable. But when applying sliders or curves in Roark's workflow, 
the first three bars look black, black, and black.

Am I doing something wrong? I can scan the results if that would 
facilitate troubleshooting.
