UT2 cold tones not very cold

UT2 cold tones not very cold

2004-12-17 by Pieris Berreitter

I just yesterday got my 1280 with UT2 running. I tried both of
Roark's methods, sliders and curves, but was unable to get a decent
cool toned image. I printed a bit of the ink purging pattern and see
that, with automatic printer settings, all tones are easily
discernable. But when applying sliders or curves in Roark's workflow,
the first three bars look black, black, and black.

Am I doing something wrong? I can scan the results if that would
facilitate troubleshooting.

I received from Paul a scan of the nozzle test pattern with/without
cold curves applied, and it matches exactly what I'm seeing. So I
know my inks are good. I will work with the sliders to try to get a
cooler tone. I'll let you know what I find.

Pieris,

You won't get very cold with the sliders. Start with the cool curve for the
paper you're using (be sure you're driver is in the No Color Adjustment
mode) and move the green curve up substantially. Then move the red curve
down about an equal amount. The cyan ink is very cold, so with a proper
curve I suspect it'll get plenty cold for you.

tremendous Dmax gain with UT2 CFS

2004-12-22 by Allan Chen

All,
Something weird just happened to me. I just upgraded from using UT2
catridges in my 1280 to the CFS, both with Eboni inks. Before, with the
carts, I found that my prints came out a bit lower in contrast than my
screen. No big deal - I just went a little farther with the curves than
I normally would. However, now the blacks (in particular) are WAAAAY
darker than they were before. I've completely lost shadow detail in a
number of instances.
The bottle is clearly labeled Eboni, and I've checked that the CFS is
installed correctly (right tubes to the right carts, etc). Any idea if
there is a formulation difference that could account for this? Could
the bottle have settled in some way that would cause this. It's really
dramatic.

thanks and happy holidays,
allan

Allan,

Sound like an incorrect ink. I'll send the test purge pattern files off
list.
