I'm not Steve, but I'll give this a try:  If, using Epson's driver, the 
image starts "closer to the top" then it sounds like you did not tell 
Epson's driver to "center" the image.

If that's the case, perhaps you should not tell QTRgui to center it 
either?  Maybe it's just to big to print centered with your modified 
printer?
