Steve,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I added 3% noise to the shadows and it 
worked like magic.  The banding in the pure black areas completely 
disappeared and isn't visible even under close scrutiny.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
