RE: [Digital BW] Re: Print Server - Was: QTR - GUI Problems...

Try the following (which I am probably going to add to the QTRgui help._

Click on the START button on the task bar. Select the RUN option. this will
open a COMMAND window. In this window type net share. This will show all the
shared resources on your computer. The share name of the printer you intend
to use with QuadToneRIP should be listed.

Now type Set Computername. This should show you the name for your computer.
Your printer will be accessed by the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) name
\\<computer name>\<Share Name> (where <Computer Name> is the name you found
from the Set Computername command above and <Share Name> is the share name
listed in the Net share command above.

Now type DIR \\<Computername>\C$. If you saw your printer in the share list
and you see your C drive directory, then QTR should work using the UNC name
above .

You can further test the printer by the following: From the Printers and
Faxes window (Click START then click Printers And Faxes) double click on
your printer icon. This will bring up a window showing the printer's
documents queue. From your COMMAND window type Copy Con: "<UNC for your
printer>". Now type DIR several times. You should see a document show up in
the printer queue. Hold down the Ctrl key and type the letter Z. This will
end the copy command. The document in the printer queue will go away. Your
printer may not actually print anything, since this process does not
necessarily send the proper printer control codes. However, if the document
shows up in the printer queue, things are working.
