W, Having used all the various versions of Windows since it was invented, I say he should upgrade because Win XP is far, far superior to Win98. It may need more memory (depending on what he has already), but it doesn't usually need new peripherals, and suffers less from bugs, viruses, etc, because a lot of attention has been given to solving them, and rarely ever crashes (unlike Win98). Win98 is 3 or 4 generations out-of-date (Win98-Win98SE-(WinME)-WinNT-Win2000-WinXP). The improvements in XP are countless, but of importance to printing, I could name USB2 and Firewire support, Wireless support, excellent networking, and superior multitasking. Mac OS's, Windows OS's, and Linux OS's are all "real" operating systems. What sort of virtual world do you live in? A newer version of Windows, with higher memory requirements, and that requires newer peripherals, but that has the same bugs, virus and spy-ware issues, not worth the money spent. Now if Adobe would release a Linux/FreeBSD version of Photoshop, then you could upgrade to a real operating system, then you would be talking.
