Paul:
Thanks for your counsel. Here's as ASMP link dealing with the issue.
http://www.asmp.org/tips/tsa.php Also in that section are guidelines on
leaving baggage with photo equipment locked. Apparently, they (ASMP) have
gone to the mat with TSA to help photographers. Thanks for the tip.
Kindest regards,
Joe

PS: Thanks to the list for permitting this investigation.
Joe

 Joe;

It is a fairly recent change in regulations which means that virtually
everyone you come in contact with at the airport will have absolutely no
idea of what you are talking about, . . . . consequently, they will probably
shoot you for being a terrorist, or at the very least drop you off twenty
miles from the airport and let you hitch-hike to your destination.

I do not remember the regulation number (or if there is one), however if you
take a look at Photopro http://www.photopro.net/ archives or at the ASMP
site http://www.asmp.org/ (they were the ones who fought for this), you will
surely come up with more info.

good luck, and have patience

all the best

Hopefully this is not too terribly offlist ... but since many of us are
photographers ... one of you may have the information. The FAA has a
regulation that let's photographers carry on one extra bag. I had the
information and like a bone-head., lost it. The article where I read the
info said i t was good to be able to quote the regulation (ie: number,
paragraph, etc.) I'm getting ready for a trip. Any help out there?

  Thanks!
  Joe
