I checked the 2100 driver installed on my machine and it was v5.40. I downloaded the latest driver from the Epson site and loaded that. It displays as v5.50. It prints in black mode no differently. If I scan prints made with the Epson driver and QTR side-by-side on a flat bed scanner, the Epson driver print has a marked magenta cast as compared to the QTR print, whereas the Epson print looks slightly green when the prints are viewed in daylight. Ah! As I recall, it matters which black ink you are using. I happen to be using the photo black cartridge at the moment. I believe the colour inks are not used when using black mode and matte black ink, as is the case with the original poster. John
