I'm not sure which printer you are using. The desktops i.e. 2200 don't support 2880 correctly yet. The pro printers 4000, x600 will run at 2880 but the builtin profiles are made for 1440. The stretching of one dimension sounds like it might be a 16bit file issue rather than a resolution issue but I can't tell for sure.
