QTRgui / 2880 dpi. ALWAYS stretches image height

QTRgui / 2880 dpi. ALWAYS stretches image height

2005-01-01 by evanj1969

tonight i installed QTRgui version 2.1d. work very well and easy.
in PS CS, using a bitches brew of UT (FSN), EZN, and Epson
UltraChrome lite Cyan (MIS equivalent) in my yellow chamber, i have
been able to achieve the best results i have in the two years i've
been doing this.
the PS curves where quite slow in getting me there. QTRgui got me
to "almost" the same place (little less smooth in the highlights /
little less control over specific densities .... 60-70-80%), in about
15 minuets. i spent DAYS on those PS curves!

i didn't seem to have the problems with installation / printing that
a lot here have.

the only problem i continue to run into is this ..... when printing
anything with the resolution set to 1440 super or below, it come out
fine. when i select 2880 dpi. it ALWAYS stretches the image height
(not width) to approximately double the height as the actual file.

anyone had a similar problem? any thoughts as how to correct it?

That's is New, on Wide format Printers ( using the Epson Driver or Rip that Uses the Epson Driver) they usually print short. Maybe Epson has put that right without telling any one.

Hi Evanj,

I'm using the latest QTRgui and the 4000. I've tried a couple of
prints on letter size matte paper at 2880. Not had any problem. No
stretch, etc. Hadn't heard that one before. Good luck getting it
straightened out.

Tony

I'm not sure which printer you are using. The desktops i.e. 2200
don't support 2880 correctly yet. The pro printers 4000, x600 will
run at 2880 but the builtin profiles are made for 1440.

The stretching of one dimension sounds like it might be a 16bit file
issue rather than a resolution issue but I can't tell for sure.

no, it's a 8 bit Grayscale image, just checked.
if it is pertinent, i'm running XP Pro, with an Epson 1280.

would i be correct in assuming that the version of my Epson driver
has NOTHING to do with QRT?? or even comes in to play?

 any help is appreciated.

Hi Evan,

OK, the 1280 may explain it -- its 2880x720 rather than 2880x1440.

Yes, that should be true.

While not exactly help, I think you wouldn't find much difference between
using 1440x720 and 2880x720. They both use the same minimum dot size
so dottiness would be the same.
