Point taken Paul.  I have seen some wonderful results with negatives
that I have tried to print in the darkroom but got frustrated with them.

That's a worthy goal, but in the long run, don't limit yourself to that.
You
can do amazing things with B&W in Photoshop, much more so than in color,
turning images that look like crap on the film into works of art.
