For support of these characters you need to run QTR in the "non Batch" mode. Using QTRgui version 2.1.11, click Options and be sure that "use batch mode" in unchecked. This problem is really with batch files. When I click print, the image disappears from the preview window after 2 seconds. A tiny file is spooled to the printer. Changing the character (i.e. e instead of é) solves the problem.
