Hi Sam, I was using luster/semi-gloss I believe when I was experimenting with B&W out of the 800. Sometimes it seemed pretty good with very little color cast, other times noticed a slight green cast that I could tweak out with a curve. I haven't attempted to use the 800 for quite awhile for any B&W, but as I recall the output on matte was pretty good. Not sure if this answered your question Sam ? What I like about QTR, is it just seems to work so darn well with minimal experimenting, no matter what paper I use.
