R800 and B&W

R800 and B&W

2005-01-19 by Stephen Kobrin

Does anyone know of any plans in the works to provide a RIP or other
software to facilitate B&W printing with Epson's R800? (I just
bought one for color.)

I too would like to see the QTR rip support the 800. Although I
have a 4000 in the studio, the 800 with its gloss optimizer is great
for 8x10's and 5x7's. I've not been able to get good B&W quality
out of the 800 consistently. I love the QTR on the 4000. Would be
terrific if I could also use it on the 800.

Maybe if enough 800 owners contact Roy, he'll put it on his list
some day :-)

I'd love to see the R800 supported in QTR also.

On matte, glossy, or both Tony? On is it more complex than that? Thanks.

Hi Sam,

I was using luster/semi-gloss I believe when I was experimenting
with B&W out of the 800. Sometimes it seemed pretty good with very
little color cast, other times noticed a slight green cast that I
could tweak out with a curve. I haven't attempted to use the 800
for quite awhile for any B&W, but as I recall the output on matte
was pretty good. Not sure if this answered your question Sam ?
What I like about QTR, is it just seems to work so darn well with
minimal experimenting, no matter what paper I use.

Cheers,

Tony

Yes, thanks, Tony, you did answer my question, and I appreciate it.
I'm thinking about trying to use the R800 or its big brother for
matte prints.
