RE: [Digital BW] With what printer/inks Mr. Roark

2005-01-30 by Paul Roark

Claude,

My 7500 is now set up with a variant of the UT-FSN inkset. I call it the
UT-FSN+. See http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/7500-FS-Readme.htm. All the
inks are off-the-shelf except the new middle gray. This one can be mixed
from off-the-shelf inks. MIS was going to have it available this month, but
I don't know if it really is.

Beyond the UT-FSN+ described in the Readme file, above, I then put PKN in
the M spot instead of PK. That raised the dmax from 2.2+ to 2.3+. If you
want to do warm prints, this might not be worth the effort. If you don't,
then you might as well go for the best dmax. The inkset still will have the
light warm ink to control the cold rag shadows.

Anyway, the 7500 with this inkset prints very well on PSM. I pulled the
UT-1 because it did poorly on this paper. This inkset takes care of the
problems. I have curves that cover all the old large format printers.

You and I discussed putting glossy inks in a 7500 a while back. I was not
really happy with UT-1 because of matte only. I use semi matte for all my
7600
color work, so it would be nice to dedicate the 7500 for B&W. What inks
should I
get or are they still in the Roark R&D department?
