I'm not 'your man', but the intention of my post was to support your comment 
by pointing out that with a new 1290 only costing \ufffd233 (rather than the \ufffd300 
I think you suggested), a secondhand 1290 is definitely not worth \ufffd200. He'd 
probably be lucky to get \ufffd100 for it, unless he finds a mug (there are 
plenty about).

I know that my man and I already have a 1290S so do not require another.
However I believe that a second hand price should never rise above half the
original list price and therefore felt an overwhelming need to challenge the
offending squire's offer.
