Yes, you are wrong about the 4000. It senses what paper is going to be used and chooses photo black or matte black automatically. It has eight cartridges installed and these will do a lot of printing before being exhausted. The 2200 requires to change cartridges depending on the paper being used. The 4000 is a little quirky in the way it handles loading paper except for paper loaded in its tray. While each use the same inks, one would think that the prints would be of equal quality from both. Not true as the 4000 produces better prints than my 2200 (which I just sold) and the 7600 which I still own. If I were going to print no larger than 13" wide prints then I would wait for the 1800, which should be available in a month or two. Hello Vinicio, >I'd like to get a good printer to make at least 11X14 and maybe >16X20 prints. I am considering an Epson 2200 or 4000. What say >thee professionals and amateurs? Are there better alternatives? Is >the 4000 really cheaper in the long run on ink? What would give me >the most for my money? Thanks in advance! They are both excellent printers and use the same inks, so it really depends on what size prints you want to make. If you ever want to make 16x20 then there's no question a 4000 (or bigger) is needed. If you don't, then why spend the extra money? The 4000 is "expensive" in other ways. It takes up a lot more space (minimum 30x30") and weighs about 90 lbs. The ink carts are bigger and cost more, plus they are not located on the head. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this means that changing inks to try other things is a much bigger chore because of having to purge the lines, and more expensive because of extra ink in the lines. The 2200 now has the nice top-fill carts, so it's easy, quick, and relatively inexpensive to swap inks and try different combinations.
