RE: [Digital BW] Scanner opinions

2005-02-25 by Richard

HI Ben

I get really good results scanning 6x7 negs using the Nikon 9000, Silverfast
AI and B+W (Agfa Scala, and HP5). I have the glass transparency holder, and
it seems to work fine. It's fiddly if you need to use the precut mounts to
avoid Newton's rings, but I don't get a lot of problems with those. (not
sure, but I don't think you get interference patterns with Scala)

If you are bulk scanning your negative archive it's going to be a bit slow
at only 2 (6x7) negs per scan

Subject: [Digital BW] Scanner opinions

Hello,

I am just switching - or considering a switch to digital printing. I shoot
medium format
B+W exclusively. After having a few scans done on an Imacon, I think I'll
continue to scan
my portfolio of negs. I seem to need no more than 3500-4000 DPI for my 6x7s.

My question is what scanner to buy - Imacons are not an option (Im a
graduate student).
I've looked at the Nikon 9000 - but have heard only bad things about its neg
holders. The
Minolta Dimage Multi Pro looks great, but is hard to find.

I would love to know which flatbeds with tras units you like and also am
interested in
hearing about the new(er) Microtek 120tf.

Thanks for your time,

Ben Zlotkin MFA SFAI
