A-ha!!!!!!!!!!! So THAT'S why you don't read the instructions :-)

MIS explains clearly that you should make sure the printer works before
you install the MIS inks.

I let my daughter empty the cartridges that came along with the printer to
make sure it worked.

It could be that the printer never worked well right out of the box.
You'll never know :-(
