Martin, I've been trying anti-newton ring oil and other mounting supplies from Prazio. Got some good, clean scans Saturday from two 4x5 negs but it's otherwise a very messy business. The 1680 has an alternate focal point for transparencies of 2.5mm, so I bought a piece of optically clear glass (could only get 2mm) to mount the film on. Using the oil and a mylar overlay (oil both underneath and on top of the film), the scans seemed sharper and cleaner. I used a rubber roller and my fingers to get the air bubbles out\ufffda somewhat tedious business. Nothing definitive overall though. By the end of the day I wound up cutting a mask from a piece of exposed 7-mil graphics art film and was taping the negative on to that in order to bypass the scanner's included carrier. I'm way to impatient it seems for the oil thing\ufffdand my hands shake from a slight tremor when mounting, so it was a bit frustrating. But I'll try it again.
