I do not want to post the current settings that Paul and I have been using to print on the 7000. This is due to the fact that they may change as the final workflow is refined. Someone searching the archives in the future may be misled and spend a lot of time on a dead end path. The first curve that we have almost completed is the neutral tone curve. The preliminary print I made late last night is absolutely lovely. It is of a white Calla Lilly against a white background. Very soft w/ lots of highlights, midtones, and some blacks at the base. Looking at the image w/ a 6x loupe there is virtually no sign of dots. I then placed the image next to a Piezography print of the same image and aside from the tonal difference, the Variable-Ink print looks much cooler than the Piezo print, you would be hard pressed to find any difference. I will update the list as Paul finishes the curves and I print, scan, and test them. Once the final curves are done for Epson Archival Matt (The baseline paper) we will create adjusted curves for some of the Hahnemuhle papers and the new Epson Fine Art Smooth. Eventually, I hope that we can prepare curves for the majority of the better Piezo friendly papers. The MIS Variable-Tone Inks are very reasonably priced and appear to produce excellent continuous tone, dotless images. Mike Michael J.
