Ilford makes (or used to) a negative cleaning cloth that removes dust AND
static.  Although it LOOKS like a lens cleaning cloth, it is very different,
and should not be used on lenses.  We would sandwich the neg in the cloth,
gently pull it through, then hit it with a blast of air AFTER putting it in
the carrier.

It's what we used to use in the field to scan negs before we switched to
digital.
