Richard, Converting between different spaces results in data loss through rounding errors and other factors; which will result in image degradation. Working in 16-bit, though, you probably wouldn't notice whatever degradation occurs. I agree with Lou...in general, I would avoid converting spaces unless really needed to complete a task that can't be done in your usual working space.
