Re: [Digital BW] Photokit sharpener and B&W

2005-03-10 by Diane Fields

Carl, I downloaded both of his sharpeners and have been comparing them to each other. I really like his Sharpener set also (has 4 actions to choose from). I was surprised how much control they gave me--and are easily usable with masking on duplicate layers and his Bruce Fraser set is really quite nice (and of course, that is what PK Sharpener is based on to a great degree, isn't it??). Thanks so much for this link. I'm very pleased with them. Using them with the gray-lab profile and adjusting to suit me in that profile, then sharpening is probably the workflow I'll refine. Ah, yes, also much faster than using PK Sharpener.

Diane

Deadman's custom sharpener is an action that will operate on 16 bit
gray files in Photoshop CS. I also have PK sharpener but using it with
16 bit gray scans of 4x5 negatives that are converted to RGB produces
very large file sizes (2 gb+) that really slows my system down (iMac
G5, 2 gb ram). I like Deadman's custom sharpener because I can stay in
16 bit gray mode and also it is very fast compared to PK.
