Where the print falls, somewhat within a 'standard' size, I have the mats custom cut to keep a .25" reveal three sides of the print, and .625 bottom. Just a matter of how you like to present your work I think, I like to see the whole image with the paper showing a bit as well... I was fortunate to be able to see a couple of Stieglitz's albumen prints once as well as a few salt prints from that same era, and happily surprised to see them matted similarly, they were signed under the image, on the paper.
