Digital BW, The Print

OK so maybe the answer is so obvious I'm missing it but I want to try
the UT7 ink set.  I've been reading the instruction on the MIS site.

My current workflow is scanning B&W negs on a Minolta 5400, 48 bit,
RGB but w/o any color and they scan and come on my screen as B&W but
they do have RGB info.

So are they already "grayscale" for UT7 printing?  The warning of not
losing info when converting to grayscale is given and I know if in
"mode" pulldown in CS changing to grayscale loses alot of info.

Am I on the right track or missing something?
