Re: [Digital BW] 1280 w Pigmnet clogs, was: Epson 2200 & switching inks

2005-03-26 by Stephen Veillette

I bought a new 1280 a few months ago and loaded it with UT2 inks straight away... gave
the OEM inks to a friend who prints color. I have subsequently switched to UT-FSN, and I
have not had any problems-- the nozzle checks are perfect every time, even after sitting
unused for a week or more.

My old 870 had issues. First, it was old. Second, I had used the Epson OEM inks in it first,
then the Lyson Quad Black inks, then finally the MIS QVM inks. Towards the end, I pretty
much had to clean the heads any time I wanted to print. It even had a total meltdown a
while back where nothing would come out of the print head... took it out, cleaned it
thoroughly, and reinstalled it... even used the Epson maintenance program to re-align
everything. It worked great for a while, but then it started flaking out again.

I think the ink-mixing theory has merit, though my 1280 is still very new and it's not really
a valid comparison, but my experience with the 870 makes me believe this.
