When you describe prints turning "magenta" it makes me think of the 
older "bad" carts that were going around.  You might check on that.

Using curve blending in QTR (or IJC/OPM) make it easy to have control 
the tone.  You can also adjust Paul's curves to your liking, but I 
don't find it as easy.
